Some East's won't double 3  since they have a minimum hand, but they certainly should. They aren't vulnerable, partner should have some values on the auction, and they aren't going to get a very good result with +100 on their card.

N/S lose one Heart trick, two Diamonds, and two Clubs, down one doubled for –200. Even if West gets off to the unfortunate lead of the  8, N/S will still go down, since declarer is able to pitch only one of dummy's Clubs on the  J.

North has done their job once they push E/W to the five level (i.e., "The five level belongs to the opponents").

E/W lose one Diamond trick and one Club, making five assuming that declarer successfully locates the  J. North will probably lead the  4. South will win the  A and continue with the  Q at trick two. Declarer will ruff in their hand, pull trump in two rounds, and play off three rounds of Spades. When South shows out on the third Spade, declarer knows that South started with 2-1-6-4 shape. Since South also started with  AQ, they can't have the  A (i.e., they would have opened 1  with 6-4 in the minors and 10 HCP), and since North started with two Clubs, it's a simple matter to play a small Club to the  Q and then low from each hand. Nicely played!

When partner makes a takeout double (not a balancing double), your responses tend to fall into one of the following categories:
1) With 0-8 HCP and a suit to bid, bid it as cheaply as possible
2) With 9-11 HCP and a suit to bid, make a jump bid in your suit
3) With 12+ HCP, cuebid the opponent's suit
4) With 7-10 HCP, no suit of your own, and a stopper or stoppers in the opponent's suit, bid 1 NT
5) With 11 HCP, no suit of your own, and a stopper or stoppers in the opponent's suit, bid 2 NT (this bid is rare)

N/S take four Heart tricks, four Spades (declarer should take the Spade finesse since West is more likely to hold length in Spades on the auction), and two tricks in the minors. If East leads a Club, they'll give declarer their 10th trick immediately. Same thing if they lead a Diamond, since Diamonds is a frozen suit. After playing eight major-suit winners, declarer will simply lead a small Club towards the T and East is endplayed.

East shows an invitational hand with 4-4 in the majors (typically 11 HCP), and West places the contract. E/W take three Heart tricks, two Diamonds, three Clubs, and two Spades, making four. North will lead the  9 (as requested).

If South had a maximum hand with some shape (i.e., a singleton perhaps), North would have made a move towards slam. As it is.....

N/S lose two Diamond tricks and one Club, making four. East will lead the  K (asking for count), cash the  A, and switch to a Club at trick three.

When South bids 4 , showing one or four keycards, North will take a moment to do a bit of arithmetic. Could South have one keycard? Let's see. They have four Spades and five Hearts, so let's give them two cards in each minor. With one keycard, the best hand they could hold would be  AQJT  QJT98 T9 T8. That's a ten count. Nobody is opening that hand. With four keycards in the South hand, North can easily count 13 tricks as long as Clubs are no worse than 4-2. Even if Clubs are 5-1 or 6-0, they can still count 13 tricks if South holds a major-suit Queen. That's about a 103% combined chance (you can quote me).

If East leads the  4, N/S take 18 tricks. A Club lead holds N/S to 15 tricks.

West's 3  bid can't be based on high-card points, so it must be a hand with extreme shape. East does well to raise to game. E/W lose one Spade trick and one Club, making five. If North finds the magical lead of a small Diamond, E/W will make only four, since South will either get a Diamond ruff or N/S will get two Spade tricks.

If North leads the  7, declarer should insert the  Q. When that holds, they can pitch a Club from their hand, play the  A, pitching a Diamond, and ruff a Heart to their hand. A small Spade to the T loses to the  K, and South may continue with another Heart, declarer ruffing again in their hand. A Club towards the board is next with North hopping up with the  A (they think that West started with a doubleton Club) and continuing Clubs to dummy's  K (declarer pitching a Diamond).  A is next (dropping the  Q), a Club ruffed with the  8, and the  J pulling the last trump. This is now the position after 10 tricks:

West:  9  JT North:  K97 East:  AQ8 South:  J  6  Q

North has shown up with 10 HCP, so they need to have the  K for their opening bid. It's a simple matter to take the marked finesse for the  K. Nicely played!

North has an easy raise to game holding three trump and a ruffing value in Diamonds. N/S lose one Spade trick, one Club, and one Diamond, making four. West may lead the T. If dummy's Heart spots were better, or if East had longer Diamonds, declarer could make five. Oh well. If you're declarer, and you pulled three rounds of trump before making a plan, you deserve to go down.

N/S lose one Spade trick, one Heart, and a Diamond ruff (in theory). In reality....

West will lead the  3. Declarer should win in hand, play a Club to the  K, and lead a small Spade, covering the T with the  Q. West, "knowing" that South has at least two Hearts, will cash the  A to get a signal from partner. East will play the  3 (encouraging using upside-down attitude), and West will continue with the  7 asking for a return of the higher-ranking side suit (Diamonds). Declarer will insert the T, East will play the  K, and ....... oops. After much growling and gnashing of teeth, E/W will grudgingly agree that South had no other logical opening bid. If you're East or West, don't forget to gnash your teeth.

E/W lose two Spade tricks, one Club, one Diamond, and a Diamond ruff, down one. South will lead the  6, and declarer will grab the  K. The  A is next, pitching a Club, and a Spade is led towards the closed hand. North will hop with the  K and play  A and  Q to dummy's  K. If declarer now leads their small Club towards the  K, South will hop with the  A and give North a Diamond ruff.

N/S take six Spade tricks, two Hearts, two Diamonds, and two Clubs, making six. West will lead the T, and declarer will win in dummy and immediately take the Spade finesse. Phew. Why bet the ranch on the Spade hook? Well, let's pretend that everything is working and declarer is able to take five Diamond tricks, three Clubs, one Heart, and two Spades without worrying about the  Q. How many tricks is that? It looks like 11 to me. Is 11 equal to 12? You're right, it's close, but is it equal? No, I didn't think so.

If North leads a Spade that doesn't have a "Q" on it, 3 NT goes down one. It also goes down one if South, when in with the  A, cashes the  A (dropping the stiff  K) and continues with a small Spade to North's  Q. Expect a smattering of –50 scores for E/W.

East, realizing that the hand will play better in a pointy suit (Spades or Diamonds), tries to find a 4-4 Spade fit before parking in 3 . South will probably lead the  A and another Diamond, declarer winning in dummy with the  K. Operating under the assumption that South started with  A4 doubleton, declarer's goal is to keep North off lead for the rest of the hand so North can't pull a round of trump. Here's how that works:

1)  A lead (nothing matters)
2) Diamond to the  K
3)  Q, covered by North and taken with the  A
4) Small Spade to South's  J
5) Small Heart to dummy's  A
6) Heart ruff
7) Small Club to the  J
8)  A
9) Heart ruff
10) T
11) Club ruff with dummy's  J
12) Heart led from dummy, declarer winning with the T
13)  Q led to South's  K, North ruffing with the master trump

If you play 1 NT-3  as something other than 5-5 in the majors with game-going values, then you can always transfer to 2  and bid 3  to show the same hand.

N/S lose one Heart trick, one Diamond, and one Club, making four. If East leads the  5 and gets a ruff at trick two, it's with their natural trump trick (i.e., they would have gotten a Heart trick anyway). South's hand is the master hand, so it's a simple matter to play off  K,  A, and ruff a Spade to establish dummy's suit.

E/W play that a response of 2 NT to a 2  bid is artificial and shows a five-card Heart suit with two of the top three honors. There should be no confusion surrounding West's 4  bid (E/W play Kickback), since West would have bid 3  if they had a real Spade suit (i.e., East's 2 NT bid had created a game force). If East had both black Kings, 7 NT would have been the final contract, but E/W don't want to be in the grand on a finesse. It's always intriguing when you're playing in a slam contract and your trump suit isn't mentioned until the final bid.

E/W take all 13 tricks when the  K is onside (three Spade tricks, five Hearts, one Diamond, and four Clubs). North will probably lead a trump.

West has no reason to ask for more information about East's hand, since they want to be in game opposite any limit raise. E/W lose two Club tricks, making five. If North doesn't lead the  A and continue with a second Club, E/W will make six when the Diamond hook is on and declarer is able to ruff out South's  K for a Club pitch. Expect a lot of +680 scores for E/W.

N/S lose two cards in each red suit, down one. East will lead the  Q, and the defense should have little trouble finding the Diamond switch at trick three when they're staring at that Club suit. Gulp.

Even though 4  doesn't make, N/S want to be there. Look at all the things that have to go wrong on this hand for 4  to go down:
1)  KJ4 offside
2)  A offside
3) T in the opponent's hand

Declarer is able to pitch their slow Heart loser on the  A when the Diamond finesse succeeds, but that doesn't quite do it with two Spade losers and two Club losers (Clubs is a frozen suit, so declarer can't play it on their own without giving the opponents two tricks). West will lead the  Q.

Although 4  makes, it's highly unlikely that any N/S pair will be there. N/S lose one Spade trick, one Diamond, and one Club, making four. West will lead the  4 (4th best from an honor).

The results on this hand will be all over the board. North's "magic" lead is the T. Declarer will win the trick (although ducking has it's merits), but when South is in with the  A or  K, they can play a Diamond through declarer's  Q87 to partner's  AK94 for four tricks. N/S should be able to get four Diamond tricks, two Hearts, and either a Club or a Spade to defeat the contract.
